Sunday morning and a bowl of Tea with Kristina
Sunday morning and a bowl of Tea with Kristina
A sliver of sunlight pierces through the living room window
A gong reverberates on an endless loop
We sit on the floor
in silence
The water is boiling in the heavy kettle atop the brazier fire pit
The house cat rests near by
In choreographed movements Kristina lays out the tea accoutrements
The textured side handle teapot filled with loose Red Tea
Alex, the potter’s hexagonal shaped ceramic bowls
Gently placed forming a crescent moon
One bowl one guest
The ritual begins
The hot water flows inside the teapot for a short steep
The liquor pours in each bowl
With a soft eye to eye contact and a half smile
Kristina offers a bowl of Tea
The one facing us
We sip
in silence
Again the gesture is repeated
Once, twice, three, four, five times to the final infusion
Until the ray of sun has moved passed the window
